The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts (the department) is conducting a program of investigations at Australian airports to investigate the nature and extent of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination associated with the former use of fire-fighting foams by the Commonwealth.

Moorabbin Airport is participating in the department’s PFAS Airports Investigation Program (the Program) and the department has commenced an investigation into potential contamination of airport land and surrounds. This investigation will support the department and the Airport to develop a PFAS Management Plan to address any identified risks.

The department is seeking information about water use practices in the area to develop a better understanding of water usage in areas surrounding Moorabbin Airport.

Participation in this survey is voluntary. If you choose to participate, it will help the department collect valuable data on local water use practices, and support development of a comprehensive environmental investigation report for the Moorabbin Airport site.

Contaminated land specialists, Aurecon (with Senversa), will collect water use information on behalf of the department. The information from this survey will be used for the Moorabbin Airport investigation and may be referenced in the final investigation reports.

Any information from this investigation survey that is included in the final investigation reports will be de-identified, meaning personal information such as your name and address will be removed. The de-identified information may be discussed in the interpretation and analysis sections of the reports.

Investigation reports may be made publicly available and published on the department’s website www.infrastructure.gov.au/pfas-airports-investigaton-program once the Program is complete.
